Themes
There are three broad thematic areas connecting Foresight's international programme of events and research. These in turn have been divided into a further set of sub-themes, as outlined below:
- Identity in a global age
- Migration and cultural diversity
- Religion and extremism
Cultural futures »
- Trade and economic integration
- Social justice
- Resources and climate change
Economic futures »
- Regional security alliances
- Nuclear weapons and nonproliferation
- New security threats
Secure futures »
The above themes and sub-themes highlight some of the key cultural, economic and foreign policy choices facing today's major global players. Some of the sub-themes are more relevant to certain regions than others, and only a selection of sub-themes are analysed for each region.
Each of the sub-themes point to challenges that:
- entail choices by the governments of major countries/regions that will have major economic, social and political implications for other major powers;
- will be approached differently by each major power depending on the assumptions, values and identity of its country/region;
- depend for their resolution on the quality of international cooperation and therefore on the possibility of improving existing global governance structures.
