Who we are
Foresight is initiated by the Alfred Herrhausen Society, the International Forum of Deutsche Bank, in partnership with the Policy Network, the international progressive thinktank. The Foresight team draws on the capabilities of both organisations and includes:
Joanne Burton - events manager, Policy Network
Before joining Policy Network, Joanne worked at the Northern Ireland Office as assistant to the consecutive Northern Ireland secretaries of state, Mo Mowlam and Peter Mandelson.
Olaf Cramme - director, Policy Network
Olaf is the director of Policy Network and a lecturer in European politics at London Metropolitan University. Previously, he worked as a parliamentary researcher at the Houses of Parliament. Olaf holds a PhD in European studies from London Metropolitan University and studied history, politics and international relations in Heidelberg and Paris, where he also temporarily worked at the Institut de Relations Internationales et Stratégiques.
Mark Day - head of communications, Policy Network
Before joining Policy Network, Mark was deputy editor of the Labour magazine Progress, and editor of the organisation's website. He has worked as a researcher in the UK parliament, and in the parliamentary office of the lobby group Stonewall. Mark has an MSc in social and political theory from Birkbeck College, University of London, and a BA (Hons) in English from the University of Cambridge.
Anja Fritzsch - project manager, Alfred Herrhausen Society
Anja joined the Alfred Herrhausen Society as a project manager in 2008. Since 1999, she held positions in Deutsche Bank as executive assistant to the management board and as manager of client events. Prior to working for Deutsche Bank, she worked in the travel and tourism industry in Germany and the US as well as in the art world.
Jade Groves - events assistant, Policy Network
Before joining Policy Network, Jade worked as an intern at the trade union Unite's parliamentary office and has previously worked for the Centre for European Reform. Jade has a BA (Hons) in history and politics from the University of Kent.
Elena Jurado - head of research, Policy Network
Before joining Policy Network, Elena was a junior research fellow and lecturer in politics at the University of Oxford, where she also obtained a PhD and MPhil in international relations. Recently, she has also worked as an administrator at the Council of Europe, with responsibility for monitoring the implementation of the European Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities.
Andrew Legon - policy researcher, Policy Network
Andrew previously worked as a research associate on the Asia programme at the Royal United Services Institute. He holds an MPhil in international relations from Cambridge University and a BA in history from University College London.
Roger Liddle - vice-chair, Policy Network
Roger Liddle is former economic adviser to the European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, and former European adviser to Tony Blair. He is a visiting fellow at the European Institute, London School of Economics, and a member of the Policy Network board.
Wolfgang Nowak - managing director, Alfred Herrhausen Society
Wolfgang Nowak is spokesman of the executive board of the Alfred Herrhausen Society, the International Forum of Deutsche Bank. He has held various senior positions in Germany's state and federal governments, France's Centre national de la recherche scientifique in Paris and Unesco. A former state secretary, Wolfgang Nowak was director-general for political analysis and planning at the German Federal Chancellery from 1999 to 2002. He lectures and publishes widely and is a regular commentator for German media. He was the founder of the Erich Pommer Institute for Media Law and Management at the University of Potsdam. Wolfgang Nowak is a member of the advisory board of the American Jewish Committee's Berlin Office, the Lawrence and Lee Ramer Center for German-Jewish Relations. In addition, he is a fellow of the Munich-based Center for Applied Policy Research and a member of the board of directors of Policy Network.
Priya Shankar - project manager, Alfred Herrhausen Society
Priya previously worked on the AHS' Urban Age programme, which is organised jointly with the London School of Economics. She was responsible for conceptualising, instituting and managing the Deutsche Bank Urban Age Award, an international travelling award for projects that improve the quality of life in cities. She was also involved in research and communications work. She holds a Masters in modern history from the University of Oxford and a BA (Hons) in history from St Stephen's College, Delhi.
Ute Weiland - deputy director, Alfred Herrhausen Society
Since September 2003, Ute Weiland has been in charge of press and political contacts of the Alfred Herrhausen Society, Deutsche Bank's socio-political thinktank. In 1997 she co-founded the Erich Pommer Institute for Media Law and Media Management at the University of Potsdam and was its assistant managing director until 2003. Born in the former Eastern Germany she graduated from the Academy of Music in Weimar. After unification she became chief of staff to the secretary of state for education in Saxony. Ute Weiland is a member of the German-Israeli Young Leaders Exchange of the Bertelsmann Foundation and young leader of the Atlantik Brücke.
